Award-winning musician and teacher, Kathleen Theisen, NCTM, has presented workshops on technology, pedagogy, jazz piano, web design, and music business at conferences such as NCKP, MTNA, CMS/ATMI, CMEA, CSMTA, and WMTA. An independent piano and voice teacher for 22 years, she is co-president of Connecticut State Music Teachers Association and on the music faculty at Western Connecticut State University. A winner of the University of Wisconsin Beethoven Competition for her performance of Op. 106, Das Hammerklavier, she has also sung leading roles with regional opera companies and orchestras. She debuted with the Metropolitan Opera Chorus in 2003. Theisen is a skilled piano teacher and voice teacher and her students have been heard in solo performances throughout the region. Her teaching centers on comprehensive musicianship training for all students, so that students can easily hit the point of autonomy and have a lifetime of music-making. Her high-tech studio includes the new Yamaha Avant Grand, an acoustic grand piano and a Yamaha Clavinova. Students work on theory software at home and at their lesson, and programs like Home Concert Xtreme allow students to play along with a virtual orchestra in 'real time.' Theisen teaches in her home studio, in her students' homes in lower Fairfield County and online via Skype with Internet MIDI software. She is the co-founder of www.PianoTeacherSchool.com, a training resource where music teachers can take online courses in technology and business. More info: www.KathleenTheisen.com
